LAHAINA — Aloha! Spring is in the air and Lahaina Intermediate School is very busy!

On Thursday, March 4, we will be holding a triple billed function. Starting at 5:45 p.m., the LIS Chorus will perform, followed by the School Community Council Community Meeting, and then the PTSA General Meeting. Refreshments will be provided. Please come and join us as we share music, snacks and information.

On Saturday, March 6, LIS will be participating in the Massed Band Concert in the Maui High School Gym at 6:30 p.m. Maui District Middle Schools’ eighth grade bands will perform together. This is an exciting event — please join us.

Then, on Saturday, March 13, LIS will participate in the annual Kiwani’s Track Meet. Students are practicing in track and field events. We hope to see you there in our cheering section. This event includes all Maui District Middle Schools.

Mrs. Jacqueline Swenson, our librarian, retired at the end of January. Joining the LIS ‘Ohana as our new librarian is Paul Jensen. His first day was Feb. 26.

At the end of February, Head Custodian Roy Soriano retired. We want to wish both of our retirees best wishes as they embark on a leisurely journey of relaxation and a new kind of freedom.

A reminder to parents — we are deep into the third quarter of this school year. Deficiency notices were distributed. If you have concerns or questions, please contact us as soon as possible.

Our intelligent students are still lagging behind on their assignments. Please give them a push in the right direction and help get those missing assignments in.

We need evidence of understanding and that they are meeting proficiency. Access edline.net for updates on your child’s progress. If you misplaced your user name and/or password, please do not hesitate to contact Tech Coordinator Robert (Tom) Norton at 662-3965. He will assist you.

Let’s work together in moving our students forward. HSA testing is coming up in April. IMUA!
