Kanaaho grant announced

By Staff | Apr 3, 2024

Office of Hawaiian Affairs recently announced the Kanaaho grant that is designed to provide critical support directly to homeowners and renters impacted by the 2023 Maui wildfires in Lahaina and Kula.

“When one part of the body is hurting, the whole body is hurting,” said Maui wildfire survivor Kawika Kiesling during the OHA announcement March 28. “And because people in Lahaina and in Maui are hurting, the whole island is hurting — everybody is hurting.”

With the new Kanaaho grant, eligible homeowners will receive a $9,000 grant, and eligible renters will receive a $4,000 grant.

The application period opens April 10 at the OHA Maui Office and online at oha.org/kanaahogrant.

“We have a history in this state and especially in Maui County of taking care of our people,” Mayor Richard Bissen said during the event.
