Cause of brush fire not determined

On Wednesday, Maui Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the report of a brush fire in the Hoolehua area of Molokai.
Crews arrived to find a half acre of brush burning just a few hundred feet from homes in the area. Three homes were evacuated as a precaution.
Hoselines were extended to attack the fire, and assistance from the department’s Air 1 helicopter was requested. Public works assistance was also requested to provide heavy equipment and tankers.
By 5 p.m. the fire was contained. And residents were able to return to their homes. The work of fire crews and public works personnel continued until almost 9:00pm when the fire was declared extinguished. Fire personnel continued to monitor the area overnight.
The cause of the fire is undetermined, and no damages or injuries were reported.
Engine 9 (Hoolehua), Engine 4 and Tanker 4 (Kaunakakai), Engine 12 (Pukoo), Air 1 and Public Works tankers and heavy equipment all responded to the incident.
