KAANAPALI — “Aloha to the Rescue,” a fundraiser gala for the Olowalu Fire Station, is set for Saturday, Dec. 30, from 5:30 to 10 p.m. at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa’s Aloha Pavilion and Lounge.
Put on aloha wear and join West Maui Improvement Foundation (WMIF) for a welcome reception with Hawaiian mele and hula, followed by a three-course dinner, entertainment, dancing and silent and live auctions.
Enjoy live performances by Nevah Too Late and Ula Maika, and a Siva Afi (fire knife dancing) performance by Manutea Nui E.
WMIF President Joseph Pluta will serve as emcee.
In an effort to improve response times to South Lahaina, Launiupoko, Olowalu and Ukumehame, the foundation is spearheading a community effort to establish a Maui Fire Department substation in Olowalu.
The new modular-constructed fire station is proposed on two acres of donated land in Olowalu. It is intended to be a kick-start, temporary substation funded by community donations and passed on to the county at no charge to them or taxpayers.
“We are moving full speed ahead, having engineering and necessary consultants complete work to prepare the donated land site,” Pluta explained.
