Maui Prep Class of 2023 excited about the future

Congratulations to the Maui Preparatory Academy Class of 2023, which graduated on Friday, May 26, on campus.

NAPILI — The 23-strong Maui Preparatory Academy Class of 2023 graduated on Friday, May 26, during a ceremony on campus.

“I’m excited for these group of students and proud of their hard work. They’re excited and, of course, have butterflies in their stomach,” said Dr. Miguel Solis, head of school.

“We believe in their accomplishments and will continue to connect and support them far beyond their graduation. Go Pueo!”

Under Advisors Dr. John James and Rob Lloyd, the class was led by Valedictorian Jocelyn Vasquez, Salutatorian Mia Merrill and Senior Class President Jordynn Ratterman.

Here are the members of the Class of 2023 and where they are headed next: Niko Banto, Babson University; Ysabelle Bayani, Mount St. Mary’s Los Angeles; Madison Becker, Oregon State University; Aiden Brown, Northern Arizona University; Cameron Burns, University of Oregon; Matthew Cahill, Colorado School of Mines; Hailey Chang, Brigham Young University; Tessa Chin, Fordham University; Emerson Flores, Northern Arizona University; Hana Gonzalez, Texas State; Lily Hill, Cal Poly SLO; Mohamed Jobran, University of Hawaii; Dillon Jonke, Cal State University Northridge; Yuna Lee, Gonzaga University; Lacie Leon, University of Miami; Mia Merrill, Brigham Young University; Margaux Perchard, Sarah Lawrence College; Madison Quillin-Schlesinger, James Madison University; Jordynn Ratterman, Willamette University; Luseane Taufa, United States Air Force Enlistee; Briana Van Boxtel, University of Miami; Jocelyn Vasquez, Occidental College; and Andrew Webber, Northern Arizona University.

Merrill was honored as the 2021-22 Academic Leader and served as Student Body President during the 2022-23 school year.

Chin was recognized as the 2021-22 Citizen of the Year.

Top athletes in the class include Emerson Flores (HHSAA DII State Basketball Champion in 2022, MIL DII Boys Basketball Team Champion in 2022, and MIL DII Boys Basketball Team Runner-up in 2023); Dillion Jonke (HHSAA State Boys Golf Team Champion in 2022, HHSAA State Boys Golf Individual Runner-up, and MIL Boys Golf Team Champion in 2022); Yuna Lee (MIL Girls Swimming Team Champion in 2023); Mia Merrill (MIL Girls Swimming Team Champion in 2023 and MIL Individual Champion in 100-yard breaststroke in 2022); Hana Gonzalez (MIL Girls Swimming Team Champion in 2023); and Niko Banto, the MIL Surfer of the Year in 2023.
