LAHAINA — Fifteen senior year Boarding students at Lahainaluna High School recently completed six financial literacy sessions led by volunteers from the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset.

Through the once-a-week, 90-minute sessions for six weeks provided by the Junior Achievement organization, students learned practical aspects of personal finance, such as budgeting, saving, investing, credit cards and debt.

They also had opportunities to think of possible scenarios involving personal finance — particularly how money matters affect relationships with family and friends — and how they can resolve issues.

In addition, students learned from the personal experiences of volunteer Rotarians about careers and personal finance.

Lahainaluna High School Vice Principal Paul Passamonte said, “These sessions were very helpful for the graduating seniors to prepare for financial matters in life.

“We are very pleased and impressed with the course and would like Rotary to come back next year to offer the course for next year’s seniors.”

Club President Kelsey Briggs said, “Students were so attentive at the sessions, and we hope they can start on the right foot by realizing the importance of personal finance.”

Best wishes to the graduating seniors at Lahainaluna High School! (Next week, Lahaina News will feature photos of the LHS and Maui Preparatory Academy Class of 2023.)

The sponsoring Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset meets at 5:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at the Royal Ocean Terrace Restaurant at the Royal Lahaina Resort and hybrid via Zoom.
