Historic Waiola Church’s 200th Anniversary plans underway

Waiola Church invites the community to celebrate 200 years of its mission.
LAHAINA — Waiola Church, formerly Waine’e Church, founded in 1823 by Queen Keopuolani, has been a community cornerstone for nearly 200 years.
In celebration of those two centuries, the church will be hosting events on Memorial Weekend. The public is invited to the main event on Saturday, May 27, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. to enjoy entertainment, historical presentations, cultural demonstrations, craft vendors, and a new virtual walking tour of the graveyard. The event will culminate in a lūau dinner.
The community is welcome to enjoy the activities throughout the day at no cost. The lūau will be a ticketed event, with tickets available online as the date gets closer.
The Waiola Church 200th Anniversary Committee, led by Chair Rita Lei Medina, is also calling for interested craft vendors to apply for a space at the celebration. Fifteen vendor spots will be available to crafters selling Maui made only products. The vendor form is available online at www.waiolachurch.org.
The celebration is made possible with support from the County of Maui’s Office of Economic Development, HK West Maui Community Fund, Kalei’s Lunch Box, and the many congregational volunteers who continually hold up the mission of the church.
