LAHAINA — Members and guests recently gathered at Lahaina Yacht Club to celebrate the Eighth Anniversary of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset.

The club was chartered in September 2014 by Co-presidents Liz May and Jim Fahnestock.

This vibrant and active club has organized and conducted several signature projects in West Maui and beyond.

A few of these signature projects are the Go for the Green monthly recycling effort in collaboration with Malama Maui Nui; the installation and maintenance of 35 Rescue Tubes located at West Maui beach parks; and planting (over a two-year period) over 100 fruit-bearing trees at public and private sites.

These are just a few of many community, youth and international projects that club members have been involved in.

As a result of their many accomplishments, the club has been recognized seven out of eight years as Small, Medium and/or Large Club-of-the-Year in all of Rotary District 5,000, which is comprised of 52 clubs in the Hawaiian Islands.

Founding President Liz May explained, “When the community comes together, so much can be accomplished for the cause. Rotary is a great way to get involved and make a difference.”

This club welcomes members of the public to attend any of their upcoming meetings held on the first and third Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. at the Royal Ocean Terrace Restaurant located in The Royal Lahaina Resort.
