LAHAINA — The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset welcomed Sara Nidasio from Cermenate, Italy to Maui on July 21.

Sara is one of three Rotary District 5,000 Youth Exchange Students who are attending schools and staying with host families in Hawaii.

Rotary Youth Exchange is a program where high school students have the opportunity to see the world as it is best seen — from the inside out. Sara will be immersed in the language and culture of Maui for this academic school year.

Sara’s first host family is Christine and James Williams, and she is attending Hana High School.

The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset is her sponsoring club and provides Sara with support through her Youth Exchange Counselor, Erica Gale, and her Youth Exchange Officer, Joanne Laird.

Sara said about this experience: “I’m glad to be an exchange student here in Hana, Maui. My host family is really nice, I feel like part of the family. Rotary people from Lahaina Sunset are special, too. The first time that I met them was at the airport; they made for me an amazing welcome party! I feel lucky to be an exchange student. I think this year will be really important for me and for all other exchange students.”

In related news, Rotary District 5,000 Gov. Randy Hart will be the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset’s meeting at 5:30 p.m on Tuesday, Aug. 30. The meeting will be held at the Royal Ocean Terrace Restaurant at the Royal Lahaina Resort.
