LIS students qualify for Reward Day through good grades and behavior

Program qualifiers were treated to a “Wet and Wild” Reward Day of fun, food, and entertainment at the school field.
LAHAINA — One of the Lahaina community’s unique and important events returned after a two-year pandemic shutdown, as the Renaissance Partners in Living and Learning Program celebrated its third quarter reward day recently at Lahaina Intermediate School.
The “Wet and Wild” Reward Day recognizes student achievement based on grade point average, behavior and a four-hour community service requirement.
According to event coordinator Todd Hayase, the number of qualifying students was down to 125, after some 300 were rewarded at the pre-pandemic events.
Nevertheless, the 125 qualifiers were treated to a joyous day of fun, food and entertainment at the school field. Jumping castles, water slides, games and lively music highlighted the day.
All qualifiers also received discount gift cards to several local stores and restaurants.
Coach Todd, a LIS counselor and Lahainaluna High School wrestling coach, had high praise for the Renaissance Planning Committee that included Lori Koyama, Cindy Koyama, Becky Altier, Ui Kuaana, Shane Cunanan, Anela Gordon, Clifford Ii, Principal Stacy Bookland, Cafeteria Manager Steve Dumlao, Alex Alecia, Naomi Enomoto, Raul Cabanilla and Ruth Lei Blando.
Special thanks also to Ron Tolbert of DJRon 808 for providing the sound and entertainment at the event, and to all the parent volunteers for their help.
“We just want to recognize and reward the kids for their achievements, and we truly appreciate everyone’s contributions to the event during these tough times,” said Hayase.
Congratulations to all, and a sincere thank you to the entire Renaissance Living and Learning Reward Day learning staff for providing such a positive action event.
