New owners running West Maui Sports and Fishing Supply

By BY WALTER CHIHARA - | Feb 25, 2022

Doug and Joanne Stacy owned and operated West Maui Sports and Fishing Supply for 30 years in Lahaina.

LAHAINA — After serving the West Maui community for over 30 years, West Maui Sports and Fishing Supply owner-operator Doug Stacy will hand over the keys for the day-to-day operations of the store to new management.

Located in the heart of town in Old Lahaina Center, the iconic business served sportsters from fishermen to soccer enthusiasts to martial artists with all of their equipment needs.

Greeted by the jovial personality of Stacy and wife Joanne, locals and visitors alike — from youngsters to seniors — found all of their hobby needs fulfilled at the store.

After some 50 years of entrepreneurship ranging from serving as director of projects at the Kapalua Bay Hotel to the present, the 74-year-old Stacy decided to retire to enjoy life with Joanne and her family in Hong Kong, as well as here at home in Maui.

“We look forward to traveling to spend time with plenty of family in China; doing a lot of fishing in the Pacific Islands, including Samoa and Raratonga,” said Stacy last week.

“I also want to sharpen my golf game (with links partner Dickie Moon). Retirement is fun!”

Stacy has for years been keenly in tune with the healing martial arts and studied Kung Fu with the late Lahaina master Steve Catugal for many years.

“I hope to concentrate on the healing arts of Tai Chi and Qigong (Chi-Kung) moving forward,” he added.

“Lopaka and Katie Wilson are the new owners. They are really nice people and will continue on as always here at West Maui Sports and Fishing Supply.

“We will always have special memories of our time here, and we really enjoyed supporting and helping out the community,” Stacy concluded.
