LAHAINA — This year marks Sacred Hearts School’s 160th Anniversary! And it is proud of its first semester accomplishments!

In the spirit of the Catholic tradition, the school organized two Community Giving Projects: the Kupuna Care and Basket of Thanksgiving Project. Parish members and school families donated much-needed items such as toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, hand soap and tissues for the local kupuna in need at the Hale Mahaolu Eono Living Center as part of the Kupuna Care Service Project.

Snack items collected by both school families and the Parish members went towards the Basket of Thanksgiving Project.

Thanksgiving gift baskets were assembled with an assortment of snacks and delivered to the staff at Maui Memorial Medical Center. The baskets were warmly welcomed by the hospital staff.

The Early Learning Center also got involved as they joined Kindergarten through eighth grade in a Thanksgiving card donation to Maui Rescue Mission for their annual Thanksgiving Feast for those in need.

Students were busy in quarter two rehearsing for two virtual holiday shows! The first performance was the Christmas Show and consisted of festive singing, dancing and acting numbers. The numbers varied from kindergarteners dancing to Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride” to the sixth grade class “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree,” as fellow student Luca Acker accompanied the number live at the grand piano.

The most breathtaking moment for most was little Mina Paje singing “Hallelujah!” Principal Tonata Lolesio commented that “it was hard to hold back the tears.”

For the second virtual holiday show, students in kindergarten through eighth grade studied “The Nutcracker” as their Dance and Humanities project. Classes learned choreography to create their own virtual “Nutcracker” presentation. Videographer Luis Barreno has fun growing the Nutcracker to a life-size version next to Kini Varona, who played Clara.

It was a blessed first semester for Sacred Hearts School. Since the start of this school year, Sacred Hearts has received $138,000 collectively from The Koraleski Foundation, The Hammerschmitt Family, Ambassador Warren W. Tichenor, and the Rolfing Foundation.

“We are so blessed and thankful to these HEARTS Angels for their continued love and support for our charming little school,” added Lolesio.

A gorgeous outdoor stage was completed in April 2021, dedicated to the Koraleski Family and named The Koraleski Kahua. The beautiful stage has already hosted many presentations and performances. The next will be the Ho’ike Luau in May this year.

The Hammerschmitt donation enabled the school to update its technology and replace outdated Chromebooks and iPads. Money from these donations will also help provide Financial Aid to families in need.

Sacred Hearts School will be launching Admissions Season for the 2022-23 school year for returning students on Jan. 10 and new students on Jan. 31.

The school will be hosting an Open House for grades kindergarten through 12th grade on Jan. 22 at 10 a.m. in the Mother Marianne Cope Hall. Space is limited. RSVP is required to attend.

This Open House is for new families only. A $500 drawing toward Fall 2022 tuition will be held for all new families who attend.
