LAHAINA — In 2005, the Lahaina Intermediate School Educational Foundation was established to continue funding of the Lahaina Complex After-School Tutoring Project founded by Richard and Pat Endsley in the year 2000.
Through generous donations from the Maui community, the Lahaina Complex After-School Tutoring Project provided free educational services to the underachieving students of all four Lahaina Complex schools.
In over 20 years, approximately 1,200 Lahainaluna High School student tutors and over 1,000 businesses, service clubs and senior citizens volunteered to tutor our Lahaina keiki with language arts and mathematics instruction, thus enriching the Lahaina community.
In 2019, the Lahaina Intermediate School Educational Foundation was renamed the Lahaina Complex Education Foundation (LCEF) to better reflect the broader mission of the foundation.
The Lahaina After-School Tutoring Project was a great success until March 2020, when all schools were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All after-school tutoring was terminated.
The LCEF then turned its focus from after-school tutoring to providing funding to all four Lahaina Complex public schools through the Richard and Pat Endsley Education Grant, and the LCEF Scholarship Program for Lahainaluna High School senior graduates pursuing higher education at an accredited college or university.
LCEF Board members are: Barbara Potts, president; Pat Endsley, vice president; Althea Viernes, secretary; Robert Kawahara, treasurer; and Directors Richard Endsley, Marsha Nakamura, Linda Quinn, and Terry Warwick.
Through the generous donations of members of the community, LCEF will continue its commitment in enriching our Lahaina community by supporting the educational needs of our students.
Donations continue to be accepted. Please mail checks to Lahaina Complex Education Foundation at 824 Kuialua St., Lahaina, HI 96761.
