LAHAINA — Sacred Hearts School Freshman Addy Reith is raising awareness and funds for Malama Pregnancy Center, which opened a West Maui office in January at Lahaina Baptist Church.

Through the school and church, Addy is collecting baby supplies that include diapers, wipes, new car seats, strollers, baby clothing (size newborn to 24 months), baby food and formula.

Donations can be dropped off at the Maria Lanakila Church office Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Feb. 17 to April 11.

According to Principal Tonata Lolesio, “Addy is a remarkable student who is living out Sacred Hearts School’s mission to nurture a life of service in our school, parish and community in the Catholic tradition. She will go down in history as Sacred Hearts School’s first-ever High School (powered by Catholic Virtual) student. She is an honor student and excelling in classes like U.S. Honors History and French. Addy is also an active member of the Sacred Hearts Student Council and leads this cooperative learning project to serve the community. She is an extraordinary student and a natural leader. We are so proud of the work she is doing.”

When asked why she is undertaking this project, Addy said, “I was raised with core values of generosity and the importance of community, and I was also blessed to be surrounded by extremely giving and loving people. These two pillars of morals are a part of me and have guided me to attempt to materialize these things within the Maui community.

“I believe Malama Pregnancy Center is helping to give the love and care so many Maui families are in need of. Being a part of something that spreads so much light and positivity in times of so much uncertainty and instability really is amazing. I am so excited to see the impact Malama will have on our Maui ‘Ohana.”

To ensure the success of this project, Addy is working with mentors Michele Rosenthal, Maria Lanakila’s community outreach coordinator, and Joanna Stockham, a Malama Pregnancy Center volunteer. Together, these women hope to provide support to young Lahaina families in need of assistance.

Malama Pregnancy Center is a nonprofit agency that provides help, hope, support, counseling and education to those facing an unplanned pregnancy.
