Rotarians complete community service projects
LAHAINA – Thanks to their West Side community partnerships, the Rotary Club of Lahaina and Lahaina Rotary Youth Foundation completed community service projects on the weekend of Aug. 1-2.
A community beach cleanup with The Whaler on Kaanapali Beach was conducted Aug. 1 from 8 to 9 a.m. Over ten large bags of beach debris were collected by volunteers and Rotary Club of Lahaina members.
“Thank you for helping us clean-up Kaanapali Beach,” said Mila Salvador, the club’s Community Service Committee chair.
Next, Rotary volunteers set-up their annual school supply donation area at Lahaina Cannery Mall. RCL partnered with Lahaina Cannery Mall management, CVS/Longs and community contributors. Efforts ran on Aug. 1 and 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Aside from standard student supplies, people gave noticeably more anti-bacterial hand soaps and facial tissues to address COVID-19 classroom hygiene best practices.
Rick Nava, RCL treasurer, commented, “Here on West Maui, we’re very fortunate to have a very generous community that is very supportive when it comes to educating our keikis.”
