Maui Humane Society CEO to be virtual speaker at Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset Zoom meeting

Steve MacKinnon, CEO of Maui Humane Society, will discuss how the organization has operated during the COVID-19 pandemic at the Aug. 4 Zoom meeting.

WEST MAUI – At 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4, the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset will feature Steve MacKinnon, CEO of Maui Humane Society, as the virtual speaker.

MacKinnon will give an overview of Maui Humane Society, including the current services and programs that are offered to the community, statistics and what the community can expect from Maui Humane Society in the future.

He will also share how MHS has adjusted and operated since the COVID-19 pandemic started.

MacKinnon’s career comes from law enforcement. He served with six different municipal police agencies, with the last four as chief of police.

He also served three separate missions with the UN’s International Policing Task Force in Kosovo (one mission) and Haiti (two).

Just prior to his current position, he served as the chief of humane law enforcement and vice president of community response for the San Diego Humane Society.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.

In related news, on Saturday, Aug. 8, and Sunday, Aug. 9, two West Maui Rotary Clubs will hold School Supplies Drives for children in need.

The drives will be held at the entrance to Lahaina Cannery Mall next to Longs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

On Aug. 8, the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset will hold the drive for the children of Hana School, an underserved remote school located 72 miles away in East Maui.

On Aug. 9, the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise will hold the drive for the children at King Kamehameha III School in Lahaina.

These clubs will receive supplies and/or monetary donations both days of the drive to support the children at these two schools.
