Rotary Club of Lahaina awards scholarships

The Rotary Club of Lahaina is using this breaching whale artwork as its logo in its marketing this year.

LAHAINA – The Rotary Club of Lahaina recently awarded 14 scholarships to seniors at Lahainaluna High School, Maui Preparatory Academy and Molokai High School.

Congratulations to the following scholarship awardees: Maria Angst ($1,500) of Molokai High School; Banyan Neece ($1,500), Chloe Chin ($1,000), Eva-Maria Kareneva-Simpson ($1,000), Madison Perry ($500) and Gabriella Wells ($500) of Maui Prep; and Hailey Bogar ($5,000), Alana Koa ($1,000), Malia Paulino ($1,000), Sophia Sibel ($1,000), Eddymar Cabading ($500), Makena Cowan ($500), Jeremiah McCall ($500) and Joshua Tugadi ($500) of Lahainaluna High School.

Applications were received prior to their in-person interviews held on Feb. 29, 2020. Selection was primarily based on academic achievement, community/school service activities and a personal written narrative.

The face-to-face interviews allowed the applicants to demonstrate confidence in speaking, sharing their enthusiasm and future goals.

The Rotary Club of Lahaina, Lahaina Rotary Youth Foundation, George Kahumoku Jr./Lahaina Jodo Mission, Dr. Feinberg and Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation provided generous monetary gifts totaling $16,000.
