Fourth of July celebration in Lahaina is canceled
LAHAINA – LahainaTown Action Committee is sad to announce that due to COVID-19 social distancing mandates and restrictions on large gatherings, the nonprofit will not be allowed to host this year’s July 4th celebration in Lahaina.
“Our dedicated volunteers will still place the traditional flags along Front Street in commemoration of the holiday, and we invite businesses who are open to share their spirit and decorate their storefronts,” LAC noted.
“With many Front Street businesses closed for the unforeseeable future, we are working to create a pedestrian-friendly Front Street Promenade, where our community can uniquely and safely enjoy Lahaina Town. It is our great hope that the county will partner with LAC to help make this possible.
“As our July 4th celebration is a county-sponsored event, we are seeking approval to use the celebration’s funds to help with the promenade and other socially-distanced community events in lieu of the large fireworks show.
“We extend a heartfelt thank you to our community, our supporters and partners for all that you have given to LAC, and we appreciate your understanding as we work to ensure the health and safety of Maui. It is our great hope we can resume celebrations next year.”
