Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset awards $2,500 ‘Go for the Green’ scholarships
LAHAINA – The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset last week announced the recipients of its two “Go for the Green” $2,500 Scholarships. These scholarships were presented to the selected students who will be attending an accredited college and must be pursuing a field of study that will benefit the environment.
Maria Angst from Molokai High School and Olivia Bozich from Maui Preparatory Academy are the recipients.
Bozich will be attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a declared major of Relevant Marketing. She hopes to return to Maui to work with a company that advocates animal safety.
Olivia served as the Student Government Student Body President and established new events at Maui Prep, such as the first-ever Homecoming and Prom that will be held in July.
Olivia said, “I am so honored to have been one of the recipients for the ‘Go for the Green’ Scholarship! I really appreciate everything the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset does for our small community, and I cannot wait to see what they do in the future.”
Angst graduated high school not only with all three categories of diplomas – CTE, Academic Honors, and STEM – but also with an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts from the University of Hawaii Maui College.
She will be attending University of San Diego with a declared major in Environmental Engineering.
Maria is also the recipient of the club’s Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation $5,000 scholarship award.
Maria said, “I am extremely appreciative of how much the Rotary has believed in my endeavors. I can’t thank them enough on how much these scholarships will help pay for my college education. “
Both of these students and their families will be on screen at a Zoom Virtual “Celebrations” Meeting of this club on Tuesday evening, June 30, starting at 5:30 p.m.
At that time, the students will share a little about their college plans.
Club members will receive an automatic invitation to this Zoom Meeting. If a guest would like to join this virtual meeting of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset contact Past President Mariko Higashi at marikoinmaui@gmail.com to be included on the invite list.
