LAHAINA – Tionilyn Acain of Wailuku won the Lahaina Poster Contest for her acrylic painting “West Maui Lahaina,” announced July 12 at the contest reception sponsored by LahainaTown Action Committee and Lahaina Arts Society.

Now in its 31st year, the poster contest offers a grand prize of $3,000 sponsored by LahainaTown Action Committee. The winning art piece becomes the limited edition official Lahaina Poster for 2020.

“I wanted to show my children that you can work, handle your home responsibilities and still make time to follow your passions and do what you love to do,” said Acain. “I work in Lahaina and challenged myself to enter this contest because I truly love painting.”

Black Dog LLC presented the second place prize of $1,000 to Erin Dertner for her painting “My Favorite Corner.” Lahaina Arts Society presented the third place prize of $500 to Dertner for her second entry, “Heartbeat of Lahaina.”

The Honorable Mention Award went to Darice Machel Mcguire for “Sea Wall Lahaina;” the $250 prize was sponsored by Cool Cat Cafe.

The People’s Choice Award also went to Mcguire for “Sea Wall Lahaina.” The $250 prize was sponsored by Pioneer Inn.

Judges for this year’s contest were Sne Patel, Monique Chicheportiche and Bill Wyland.
