Lahaina to celebrate Independence Day
LAHAINA – Lahaina will celebrate the Fourth of July on Thursday with family activities throughout town and a fireworks display at 8 p.m.
Front Street will be closed to motorists from Baker to Hotel streets from 4 to 9 p.m. for this annual event that draws thousands of people.
Fleetwood’s on Front St. will have music all day, a Surfrider Water Station, blessing at 6 p.m., Taiko drumming at 7:40 p.m. and singing of “The Star Spangled Banner” at 8 p.m.
The Outlets of Maui at 900 Front St. will have food vendors in front of Tommy Hillfiger from 3 to 8 p.m., the Aumakua Polynesian Spectacular from 3 to 4 p.m., face painting by the Party Zone from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., and music by jazz guitarist Prem Borsio at 5 p.m., Jake Thomas Quartet at 6 p.m. and Na Alii Big Band at 7 p.m.
Music is scheduled on the Lahaina Public Library oceanfront lawn, featuring the Chop Suey Jazz Orchestra from 5 to 5:50 p.m., the Hawaiian trio Kuikawa from 6 to 6:50 p.m. and Maui Community Band from 7 to 8 p.m. Sheryl Renee will sing “The Star Spangled Banner” at the start of the fireworks show.
In Campbell Park between the Baldwin Home Museum and The Wharf Cinema Center, Brenton Keith’s “Game Show Fanatics” starts at 6 p.m. The show will resume at 8:15 p.m. along with vendors, merchandise, food and a Surfrider Water Station in the park.
Fourth of July T-shirts are available in the Lahaina Visitor Center in the Old Lahaina Courthouse now, and in Campbell Park on July 4.
