Sacred Hearts School to host Kindergarten Open House

By Staff | May 16, 2019

Families can meet Kindergarten teacher Holly Symank at the Open House.

LAHAINA – On May 21, Sacred Hearts School will be hosting a Kindergarten Open House. Prospective new families will have a chance to tour the campus, meet Kindergarten teacher Holly Symank and peek into the first and second grade classrooms.

Miss Symank, who is finishing her first year as the Kindergarten teacher, said, “This class will always be golden to me. I will always remember this class because it was my first.”

Holly received her Bachelor’s Degree in 2012 from Trinity Western University in Canada. She spent some time in 2013 assisting previous Kindergarten teacher Wendy Coon and then signed on as the first grade Teacher Assistant to Shay Talboys for two years.

When the position for Kindergarten teacher became available for the 2018-19 school year, Holly was intrigued. She felt blessed to have had an amazing foundation laid out before her from her friend and mentor, Mrs. Talboys, and she was ready for this challenge.

“I learned a lot from Shay and admired how she ran her classroom, from reading groups, hands-on math activities to differentiated learning.”

Mrs. Talboys commented, “I was excited for her and for her gifts and talents that would lend themselves well to the early elementary stage. I knew future first grade students would be well-prepared coming from her class.”

Naturally a very organized person, Miss Symank knew how she wanted to run her classroom. She is excited to be finishing a successful first year, but sad to let these kids go.

The parents have all been wonderfully supportive, and it’s been a joy getting to know her students and their cute personalities.

“I thank God to have been so blessed by this class,” she said.

Currently, Miss Symank is enjoying preparations for Kindergarten Graduation, from planning the day to designing the programs.

The theme of graduation is “Shining Star.”

She said, “Each child shines brightly with their own individual talents and gifts, and I want to celebrate that.”

Graduation will take place on Thursday, May 30, in the Maria Lanakila Church. Father Joseph will bless the children who will soon be venturing on to the primary school years.

Miss Symank is excited for the upcoming year and loves her job. With a deep thoughtful smile on her face, she shares that “my favorite time of the day is carpet time. I just love carpet time in the morning and being silly with my kids!”

Sacred Hearts School is excited to offer this chance for interested families to peek into Miss Symank’s classroom and explore the campus. The tour will also include a look into the first and second grade classrooms, and complimentary lunch will be provided by Penne Pasta Cafe.

Families who attend will have the opportunity to win $1,000 off tuition for the 2019-20 school year in a drawing that will take place that day. Families will also learn about how to apply for the newly established $3,000 Koraleski Educational Scholarship for new students entering ELC through fourth grade, or any family with one child concurrently registered or enrolled at Sacred Hearts School who wishes to enroll a sibling.
