Community welcome to celebrate historic groundbreaking at Maui Preparatory Academy

By Staff | Feb 28, 2019

Maui Preparatory Academy will break ground on its Bozich Center for Athletics and the Performing Arts in a ceremony on Friday, March 1.

NAPILI – On Friday, March 1, at 8 a.m., all are welcome to celebrate the groundbreaking of the most significant new construction project in Maui Preparatory Academy’s history: the Bozich Center for Athletics and the Performing Arts.

As this amazing new facility will be an integral part of the community, everyone is invited. Students, teachers, faculty, school supporters, extended ‘ohana, board members, community members and distinguished guests are all welcome.

Newly elected Mayor Mike Victorino will attend to celebrate, and invitations have been extended to local County Council members.

“This facility will provide for the West Maui community a venue for extracurricular sports like basketball and volleyball, student concerts, musical and drama productions, keiki performances, public meetings, conferences, emergency shelter and more,” said Head of School Robert Landau.

“It will also allow the school to host competitions, teams and students from other schools, enabling it to be a more generous contributor to the Maui Interscholastic League (MIL). Moreover, the Bozich Center will enable the school to be a more engaged and collaborative neighbor as it discovers new ways to connect with the community,” Landau said.

The brief ceremony will feature remarks by Landau and Board of Trustees Chair Jim Bozich.

A custom-made koa wood o’o (digging stick) will be presented in honor of the groundbreaking.

Target date for completion of the new center is November 2019, in time for the boys basketball team to host other MIL high schools for games.

Later in the day, Maui Prep will host an Exhibition of Student Learning. Students in grades 6-12 will present passion projects from a week of intensive, specialized learning.

Scuba certification, forensic investigation, creative writing, yoga, marine science and personalized internship projects will be presented to the public by MPA students.
