Rotary Club to host ‘Friendraiser’

By Staff | Jan 17, 2019

One of the many activities of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset was the recent “Tour de Trash.” Members and guests were informed about waste management activities in Maui County.

KAANAPALI – Maui residents are invited to attend a “Friendraiser” hosted by the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset on Tuesday, Jan. 29, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Royal Ocean Terrace Restaurant at the Royal Lahaina Resort.

Come join members of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset in this fun and interactive evening and learn more about the local, regional, national and international projects of this award-winning Rotary Club.

The club will provide complimentary pupus, and there will be a no-host bar with happy hour drink prices until 6 p.m.

The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset, West Maui’s evening club, is beginning its fifth year of service to the West Maui community. The club has been named Rotary’s Small Club of the Year in the Hawaiian Islands for the past three consecutive years.

“We’re proud of our service to this community,” stated Ryan Beenken, president-elect of this vibrant club.

“And there is so much more we want to do. Our goal with this ‘Friendraiser’ is to meet some new friends – folks who may be willing to join us in tackling big things here in West Maui.”

This club has co-sponsored with Malama Maui Nui the Third Saturday Recycling program at Lahaina Cannery Mall since 2015. Known as the “Go for the Green” Rotary Club, it also provides scholarships to high school graduates who will major in environmental studies and has just received county approval to install 22 rescue tubes on West Maui beaches. Additionally, this club sponsors the annual “Go for the Green” fundraiser each year on St. Patrick’s Day weekend. The event is scheduled this year on March 16.

“We know that Maui residents are looking for ways to give back to this community,” said President Heidi Dollinger. “Rotary provides the perfect avenue to do this. In Rotary we believe many hands make light work. Rotary members gladly volunteer our time, and we always get back more than we give,” stated Dollinger.
