Officials to speak at WMTA Annual Meeting
LAHAINA – The West Maui Taxpayers Association (WMTA) will hold its Annual Members Meeting on Thursday, Jan. 17, at Lahaina Civic Center. The public is invited to this informative event.
Akaku: Maui Community Television will tape the event for later re-broadcast.
Complimentary food service will begin at 5 p.m., followed by a short meeting at 5:30 p.m. with official WMTA business, including the election of its board of directors.
The slate of directors includes Lee Chamberlain, Richard Jarman, Gregg Nelson, Jess “Joe” Park, Joseph Pluta, John Seebart and Fereshteh Tali.
Immediately following this short business meeting will be presentations important to the West Maui community.
Last year, nearly 300 attendees enjoyed the interesting community presentations on WMTA’s top issues.
Invited guest speakers for the special presentations at the 2019 Annual Meeting are: message from Governor’s Office; Sen. Rosalyn Baker, Sixth Senate District; Rep. Angus McKelvey, Tenth House District; Maui County Mayor Mike Victorino; West Maui County Councilwoman Tamara Paltin; Kaloa Robinson, project manager for Stanford Carr Development LLC, with an update on the Kahoma Village Affordable Housing Project; Pamela Eaton of the county Department of Planning, speaking about the West Maui Community Plan update process; Brian Hoyle of the West Maui Hospital Foundation Inc., providing a West Maui Hospital update; Colin Yamamoto, retired chief of ocean safety for Maui County, speaking on the rescue tube project to mitigate the number of drownings in the ocean in West Maui; and Tom Yamachika, president of the Tax Foundation of Hawaii.
The major purpose of the meeting is to have elected officials address issues of interest to the West Maui community and to have special presentations on major projects impacting the isolated region.
