Keiki Christmas Concerts and free music classes slated in Lahaina

After School Music Club students will be performing Christmas concerts around Lahaina this month.
LAHAINA – After School Music Club is where Lahaina’s keiki are reviving a Hawaiian tradition and reclaiming it to its roots.
The Hawaiian ukulele is on fire all over the world, with ukulele clubs popping up everywhere – some even travel here to perform in festivals.
But Reuben Pali noticed that a piece of his culture was not thriving in his hometown, because very few keiki were carrying ukuleles,
Today, Maui Music Mission is inspiring keiki through music. Children ages 5-13 are playing ukulele, piano, violin, drums and more in a low-cost after-school program.
The musical world is coming alive in them as they gain understanding of music as a universal language and culture.
Confidence is booming on stage, as they fearlessly perform several times each month.
Christmas in Lahaina is now extra special with Keiki Christmas Concerts to be enjoyed by everyone.
They’ll be rockin’ the Christmas Carnival at Lahaina Baptist Church on Saturday, Dec. 8, then at Lahaina Cannery Mall for an afternoon show at 2 p.m.
You can catch the show daily Dec. 10-14 and 17-21 at Lahaina Cannery Mall at 3:30 p.m.
And, don’t forget, they will perform at Outlets of Maui on the first and third Fridays (Dec. 7 and 21).
Reuben and his wife, Ronda Pali, strive to provide sponsorship for all who apply because of their belief that music is essential and should be available to everyone.
Most ASMC members receive reduced tuition and are partially sponsored through donations from their audiences.
Visit “Christmas Town,” MMM’s pop-up shop, at the Outlets of Maui to further support the music mission.
Open Dec. 10-24 from 12 to 7 p.m., it’s the place to get all of your gifts wrapped! Santa’s elves are on the job, and they’re pros at making your gifts look great.
You can even use their “self-elf station” if you prefer to do it yourself. All proceeds are by donation.
Due to the high demand for enrollment and the eagerness of MMM student members to achieve more in music, elective classes are offered in the evenings.
Electives include orchestra, voice, drums, and Advanced Performance Crew.
Members qualify for one free elective once per week. Non-members may audition to join a group with low monthly dues.
ASMC sessions align with the public school quarters. January enrollment is open; register online at www.mauimusicmission.com.
