Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset delivers $920 to Hana School for school supplies
LAHAINA – Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset President Heidi Dollinger and Youth Service Chair Erica Gale presented a check in the amount of $920 to the children at Hana School at a recent school assembly.
These funds and over ten boxes of school supplies were collected at the club’s School Supplies Drive held at Lahaina Cannery Mall in August.
Hana School has been “adopted” by the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset to be the beneficiary of annual school supplies drives and other youth-related projects.
Hana School is in the same Hawaii Department of Education Complex as the Lahaina Schools, but prior to this past year, no Rotary Club has offered service projects for this underserved community.
According to President Dollinger, “Hana is more than 70 miles from Lahaina, and it traverses 52 one-way bridges to get there, but it is not far from the minds of our club members. We recognize there is a need in the community to help families and teachers with the cost of school supplies for education.”
Dollinger and Gale were enthusiastically greeted and cheered by over 60 students in an assembly when the check presentation was made.
This School Supplies Drive is one of the many community service projects sponsored by the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset.
Rotary is a leadership organization made up of local business, professional and civic leaders. Club members meet regularly, get to know each other, form friendships and get things done in the community.
