Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset to host two Candidate Forums

By Staff | Sep 27, 2018

LAHAINA – On Tuesday, Oct. 2, the first of two Candidate Forums will be presented by the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset. Mayoral candidates Elle Cochran and Mike Victorino will be featured at this event at the Royal Lahaina Resort Meeting Rooms from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The evening will begin with remarks limited to ten minutes from each candidate. The next 45 minutes will be extended to the candidates to provide specific plans and actions on these three topics that are specific to West Maui: 1) affordable housing, 2) high-end development plans, and 3) environmental issues.

Moderator Heidi Dollinger, president of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset, will then offer the public the opportunity to ask questions of the candidates for the remaining 30 minutes.

On Tuesday, Oct. 16, the second Candidate Forum will be held for the two candidates running for the West Maui County Council seat.

Rick (Frederick) Nava and Tamara Paltin will be featured. The times, site and topics for this forum will be replicated at this event.

A special feature of the Oct. 2 forum will be a voter registration area. Representatives from the County of Maui Elections Division will be present with voter registration forms for the public to complete for the Nov. 6 General Election. The voter registration deadline for the General Election is Oct. 8.

According to Dollinger, “These two forums will offer our local residents the opportunity to hear from each candidate their opinions on issues of interest and concern to West Maui.

“Space is limited, so please plan to arrive early for these informative evening events.”
