LAHAINA – The Lahaina Junior Golf Association was established in 2009 by “Dandy” Don Rosenthal and Kapalua Professional Ben Hongo, along with the Kaanapali and Kapalua Golf Courses, to give students across Maui County an affordable – no cost – avenue to learn the game of golf.
Today, the LJGA continues to provide that avenue for kids to experience the world-class venues at Kapalua and Kaanapali as well as instruction and guidance in the game from program director and Kaanapali Golf Director and Professional Sutee Nitakorn.
Nitakorn recently announced the recipients of the 2018 Lahaina Junior Golf Association Scholarships: Beau Johnston (Maui Preparatory Academy, University of San Diego), Hanna Valencia (Lahainaluna High School, University of Hawaii at Manoa), Yasmine Chadli (Lahainaluna High School, UH-Manoa), Kyle Sparks (Seabury Hall, Washington State University) and Jaelin Ishikawa (Baldwin High School, Eastern Washington University).
Nitakorn praised LahainaTown Action Committee for its support of the scholarship program.
“We appreciate the continuing support of the LahainaTown Action Committee in their recognition of the graduating Class of 2018. These scholarships are funded through the LTAC Golf Tournament, and we congratulate the 2018 class on their achievements,” he said.
“We also extend our gratitude to both the Kaanapali and Kapalua Golf Courses for their support of the LJGA and the effort to foster the growth of junior golfers of all ages and abilities all across the island of Maui. We welcome new members to join us in the fall,” Nitakorn concluded.
