By Staff | Jun 28, 2018

Colin Yamamoto will cover the history of rescue tubes and ocean safety trends at the Rotary meeting.

LAHAINA – Colin Yamamoto, retired battalion chief of ocean safety, will be the speaker at the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset on Tuesday, July 3. The meeting will be held at the Royal Ocean Terrace Restaurant at the Royal Lahaina Resort from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Yamamoto will present a video and power point presentation on the history of rescue tubes and ocean safety future trends.

The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset recently purchased over 20 rescue tubes and will be working with the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise to install them on beaches that do not currently have these safety devices onsite.

Yamamoto recently retired from the Department of Fire and Public Safety after 30 years of service. The last four years, he was the battalion chief of ocean safety and supervised 61 beach lifeguards.

He is a board member of the Hawaiian Lifeguard Association (HLA) and Drowning and Aquatic Injury Prevention Advisory Committee.
