By Staff | May 31, 2018

Melissah Shishido said she will focus on state-level solutions to improve our quality of life.

KIHEI – Green Party candidate Melissah “Mish” Shishido has turned in nomination papers to run for the State Senate District 6 seat, representing South and West Maui.

Shishido is entering the political scene as a grassroots candidate.

She was a high school teacher on Oahu for 21 years and continues to tutor students on Maui and via the Internet on neighbor islands. Shishido is currently a student at the University of Hawaii Maui College pursuing a degree in education.

Shishido reported that “she thinks globally and will act locally.”

She has been volunteering for the Kihei Fourth Friday Town Party for the past four years, where she has connected with the community, made numerous friends and learned about issues facing the community.

Shishido co-coordinated the Inaugural Mahalo Sail for Hokule’a at Honolua Bay, where thousands gathered to continue the vision of Nainoa Thompson and Malama Honua.

Over 3,000 koa trees and other native plants were planted at Honolua during Hokule’a’s visit.
