Officials to give updates on West Maui projects at WMTA meeting
LAHAINA – The West Maui Taxpayers Association (WMTA) will hold its Annual Members Meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at the West Maui Senior Center at 788 Pauoa St. in Lahaina.
The public is invited to this always-informative event. Last year, around 300 people attended the meeting.
Akaku: Maui Community Media will tape the event for re-broadcast.
The meeting will begin with official WMTA business, including the election of its board of directors.
Immediately following this short business meeting will be presentations important to the West Maui community.
Invited guest speakers/presentations include a message from Governor’s Office; Sen. Rosalyn Baker; Rep. Angus McKelvey; Mayor Alan Arakawa; West Maui County Councilwoman Elle Cochran; Robin Shishido, Maui District engineer, state Department of Transportation, who will cover Keawe Street improvements and the Lahaina Bypass extension; Kaloa Robinson, project manager of Stanford Carr Development LLC; Carol Reimann, director of the county Department of Housing and Human Concerns; Pamela Eaton, planning program administrator, Long Range Division, county Department of Planning;? Coastal Zone Management Planner James Buika of the county Department of Planning, who will provide a Kahana Bay erosion update; and a West Maui Hospital and Medical Center update.
Free food service will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the short business meeting at 5:30 p.m.
The major purpose of the meeting is to have elected officials address issues of interest to the West Maui community, and to have special presentations on major projects impacting the isolated West Side community.
