By Staff | Oct 26, 2017

A master of Kyudo (Japanese Zen Archery), Jyozen Rick Beal has been coming to Maui during the past five years to hold workshops.

LAHAINA – A meditation session for all people of any experience and interest will be held on Friday, Oct. 27, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Lahaina Jodo Mission at 12 Ala Moana St. next to Mala Wharf.

The session will be led by guest instructor Jyozen Rick Beal from Kanzeonji Zen Temple in Pasadena, California.

A master of Kyudo (Japanese Zen Archery), Beal has been coming to Maui over the past five years to hold Kyudo workshops.

He has trained in martial arts from a young age; it was through this practice that he was introduced to meditation and the internal workings of the human being.

He became more interested in Japanese Buddhism and its philosophies and officially began training as a Zen priest in 2000. He has since continued his training and has been given permission to teach meditation. He shares his practice at Jizo-an, where he resides as abbot.

The meditation session is free and open to the public for beginners and all levels. Wear loose and comfortable clothing.
