LAHAINA – Vrander Villalba and Andy Baltonado, recent Rotary Career Scholarship awardees, will speak at the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise breakfast meeting at 7 a.m. on Sept. 26.

The public is invited to attend. The $10 fee includes a full breakfast with menu selections.

With support from Rotary Career Scholarships, Villalba is studying auto mechanics, and Baltonado is pursuing a career in agriculture.

The Rotary Career Scholarship is awarded annually by the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise to students pursuing a career outside of the traditional academic college setting.

The scholarship awards are based on the enthusiasm and passion expressed by the applicants for their chosen career. Their well-planned long-term goals, as well as their ability to overcome obstacles and setbacks, are also considered in the selection process. Scholarship applications are available in the spring.

Funds for the scholarship are raised at the annual Oktoberfest, to be held this year on Friday, Sept. 29, at the historic Pioneer Inn with festivities starting at 6 p.m.

Authentic German food, beer and the foot-stomping oompah band make this a crowd-pleasing event. A silent auction with items donated from a variety of businesses helps raise funds for the annual scholarship.

Tickets are $50 and can be purchased online at “http://www.lahainasunriserotary.org”>www.lahainasunriserotary.org.
