KAHULUI – Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner and Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Henry Kapono will headline Hale Makua Health Services’ annual fundraiser, Kokua for Kupuna. Guests will be treated to an evening oceanfront and under the stars on Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa in Kaanapali on the Ocean Lawn.

Registration will open at 4:30 p.m. with the formal program beginning at 6 p.m. Proceeds from the fundraiser help frail elders and disabled individuals who cannot afford healthcare services.

Kokua for Kupuna will also include an opening performance by Halemanu, a Hawaiian buffet dinner, two hosted drinks and silent auction with over 100 items from local retailers and restaurants.

Tickets are $150 for adults, $40 for keiki 5-12 years old, and $1,500 for a reserved table of ten with premium seating. Tickets and tables can be purchased by calling 871-9271 or online at www.halemakua.org.

This year’s theme, “Continuing the Journey,” will pay tribute to the life and legacy of longtime Hale Makua Health Services supporter Sue Cooley, who passed earlier this year.

Over her lifetime, she provided over $4.6 million in funds to make major improvements to the kitchen at Hale Makua Kahului, making it possible to efficiently prepare over 1,000 meals daily, and providing the funding needed for the organization to currently undergo a master planning process for the Hale Makua Kahului and Wailuku locations.

Kokua for Kupuna is made possible by the generous support of sponsors: Title Sponsor Atlas Insurance Agency; Major Sponsors Carlsmith Ball, First Hawaiian Bank, and Kaiser Permanente; and Supporting Sponsors ACM Consultants, Alexander & Baldwin, AlohaCare, American Savings Bank, Arisumi Brothers, Betsill Brothers, Dowling Company, Genesis Healthcare, Goodfellow Bros, HFM Foodservice, Hawaii Gas, Islands Hospice, MDX Hawaii, Maui Oil Company, Maui Soda & Ice Works/Roselani Ice Cream, Munekiyo Hiraga, Ohana Health Plan, Sakamoto Properties, Servco Foundation, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, VIP Foodservice/ Island Grocery Depot, Vizient, and Willis Towers Watson.

Hale Makua Health Services is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation established in 1946 to provide a home for elders who had no one to care for them or means to pay for care.

It is the only Eden Alternative-registered home in the State of Hawaii and one of Maui’s largest non-government employers. Over 450 employees serve two nursing homes; a home healthcare agency; a rehab center specializing in both in and out-patient physical, occupational and speech therapies; an adult day health center; and an adult residential care home.
