By Staff | Mar 30, 2017

Eighth-graders improve their writing in the Lahaina Complex Tutor Project.

LAHAINA – The Lahaina Complex Tutor Project will celebrate its 16th year of service to youngsters in the Lahaina public schools on Tuesday, April 4, in the Lahaina Intermediate School cafeteria from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Richard and Pat Endsley, founders of the program, invite tutor project participants, their parents and community sponsors to join in the celebration. The event is held to honor student academic successes and to thank the hundreds of volunteers who have continued to make this valuable community-school partnership a success.

All students who have participated in the project this year will be recognized and receive achievement awards. The annual Tutor Project Mahalo Award will be presented to an outstanding sponsor. One outstanding volunteer math tutor will receive a scholarship for her four years of dedicated service tutoring fourth-graders. New Project Leadership Team members will be introduced, and exciting changes will be announced. School PCNC facilitators will be happy to assist with questions about the celebration.

In related news, the Aina Nalu Fundraiser, which is held every two years for the tutor project, is scheduled for Saturday, May 27, at the Aina Nalu Pavilion. Funds from this fun and exciting event will support scholarships for Lahainaluna High School math student tutors, instructional materials, tutor training sessions and other operational costs. Tickets may be purchased online or by contacting Barbara Potts at (808) 344-5008.
