LAHAINA – Join the community in celebrating the environment, fitness and local culture at “Love the West Maui Greenway Day.”

This Earth Day kick-off event, hosted by the West Maui Greenway Alliance and Maui Bicycling League, will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Lahaina Civic Center.

The West Maui Greenway project is a proposed 25-mile, multi-use pathway along the West Maui Mountains, aimed at providing safe, healthy and sustainable recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.

“Love the West Maui Greenway Day” will offer information about the vision and mission of the project to address the importance of safe walkable and bikeable communities. Several local organizations and businesses are volunteering to host a variety of workshops, classes and performances to help make this community event a success. In attendance will be Sookie Kunst of Good Karma Yoga, who will be offering free classes the morning of the event to spread joy, health and good energy.

Kunst teaches Yin and Yang Yoga for Healthy Everything, a series of classes that consist of both active and restorative postures for strength, flexibility, balance, agility and equanimity. She makes her teaching accessible, fun and educational by bringing 20-plus years of experience and training in the Iyengar, Ashtanga and Yin Yoga traditions combined with her professionalism from a long career in engineering, marketing and management. Beginner and lifelong yogis are warmly welcomed to participate. Visit mykarmayoga.com for more information.

“Love the West Maui Greenway Day” will offer other opportunities to help guests “Get Fit the Green Way,” such as hula hooping, a keiki bike rodeo, healthy grinds and a nutritional juice bar.
