Uncle Willie K BBQ BluesFest to feature three concerts
LAHAINA – Legendary West Maui musician Uncle Willie K this year is bringing his BluesFest to Lahaina, in a three-day event that will support the Lahainaluna High School PTSA.
Maui Tribe Productions, Aloha First and LahainaTown Action Committee are staging the fifth annual Uncle Willie K BBQ BluesFest from Thursday, March 23, to Saturday, March 25.
On Thursday, March 23, LahainaTown Action Committee will present a free concert celebrating the blues under the historic Banyan Tree from 6 to 8 p.m., featuring the Lahainaluna High School Hawaiian Club, Deborah Vial Band and Mike Carroll Blues Band.
On Friday, March 24, a VIP party is slated at Fleetwood’s on Front St., featuring the lead artists from Saturday’s main event along with Mick Fleetwood, Tavana, Gretchen Rhodes, Deborah Vial, Uncle Willie K and more. Tickets are limited; call (808) 866-0668.
The BluesFest is set for Saturday, March 25, outdoors at Lahaina Civic Center, featuring Tommy Castro and the Painkillers, Eric Sardinas and Big Motor, Kapena and Kings of Spade. Doors open at 3 p.m.; all ages are welcome.
Closing the night will be Uncle Willie K and the Warehouse Blues Band with special guests Mick Fleetwood, Davell Crawford, Tavana, Larry Dupio and Gretchen Rhodes.
The event will also feature barbecue dishes, a variety of food trucks, refreshments and a large beer garden with great views of the stage.
Blankets and low-back chairs are allowed. Designated seating will be available for kupuna and disabled attendees.
Minors must be accompanied by an adult. No outside food or beverages, or cameras of any kind, will be allowed.
There will be no refunds or exchanges; rain or shine, the show will go on, organizers said.
Tickets are $40 for adults (age 12 and up) in advance and $10 for keiki ages 5-11. Tickets are available at all Island Grocery Depots and online at www.williekbluesfest.com.
