Plans announced for ‘Love the West Maui Greenway Day’
LAHAINA – The West Maui Greenway Alliance and Maui Bicycling League invite the community to “Love the West Maui Greenway Day.” This kick-off event, intended to build support for the West Maui Greenway project, will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, at Lahaina Civic Center.
The West Maui Greenway project is a proposed 25-mile, multi-use pathway along Maui’s western shore, aimed at providing safe, healthy and sustainable recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.
“Love the West Maui Greenway Day” will offer information about the vision and mission of the project to address the importance of safe walkable and bikeable communities.
Morning activities will encourage attendees to “Get Fit the Green Way” by participating in guided exploration rides, a children’s keiki bike rodeo, classes by Good Karma Yoga, hula hooping and more. After 12 noon, guests will have the opportunity to refuel at food trucks, learn traditional chants and hulas by Old Lahaina Luau and listen to entertainment by Melinda Carroll, Fred’s Garage, Anthony Pfluke and other local musicians.
Throughout the day, educational booths will provide information on bike safety, nutrition, healthy living, environmental concerns and the potential for the WMG as a bikeshare route. The event is free and open to residents and visitors of all ages.
“Love the West Maui Greenway Day” is being made possible by a generous grant provided by the Hawaii Tourism Authority, and by sponsors Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset, Boss Frog’s and RideSmart Maui.
This first-time event will be followed by an annual bike/walk/run to be enjoyed by visitors and residents along the proposed West Maui Greenway route. For additional information and updates, visit www.westmauigreenway.org.
