Maui Prep to expand with Center for Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurism
NAPILI – Maui Preparatory Academy strives to dream up new ways to inspire students, develop their potential and create possibilities for their future.
This mission stems from the constant drive to imagine and invent the future of education – a calling facilitated by 21st Century classrooms and design elements that foster creativity and collaboration.
Twenty-first century classrooms allow Maui Prep to scale curriculum and courses to support all students. In the spirit of accelerating this process, Maui Prep has unveiled its plan for the development of a Center for Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurism (CCIE).
“The CCIE will expand the school’s capacity for interdisciplinary teaching by providing a hub for STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) based courses and projects,” said Head of School Jonathan Silver.
The CCIE expansion, with a targeted completion date of September 2018, will add 992 square feet of laboratory and learning space to the campus.
Four locally-based family foundations – Atherton Family Foundation, Graham Family Foundation, Fred Baldwin Memorial Foundation and First Hawaiian Bank Foundation – will provide the seed money for the expansion, while the Maui Prep ‘ohana begins a capital campaign to complete the project.
This phase is the latest chapter in campus and program development for Maui Prep, which began in 2005 when the school opened its doors on land generously donated by Maui Land and Pineapple Co. Inc.
Nine years later, Maui Prep established the school’s international boarding facility in Kahana, doubling the school’s footprint.
Incremental development of the school’s programmatic platform has remained constant over the last decade, with integrated science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) as an educational framework.
Maui Prep is dedicated to providing a rigorous and interdisciplinary academic program, combining arts enrichment, athletics and community service as part of its core values.
