Bezane to launch new book
LAHAINA – “Journalist’s Journey,” a talk story by former columnist Norm Bezane, launches “Voices of Aloha on Magical Maui,” a new book with nearly 50 Lahaina News columns. Events will be held on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 2 and 3 p.m. at Lahaina Public Library.
The book goes on sale this week at the Maui Friends of the Library Bookstore at The Wharf Cinema Center, Kingwell Island Art on Front Street, MauiGrown Coffee Store at the Pioneer Mill Smokestack, and online at voicesalohamagicalmaui.com.
The talk story will include a reading of two essays titled “Passion for Maui” and “Living Aloha,” and commentary on King Kamehameha, Queen Liliuokalani and the struggle of Hawaiians to gain respect in their own homeland.
Book sections include “Polynesians, Kings, Queens – A Treacherous Tale;” “The Visitor Experience,” highlighting people who you can be meet every day; “Today’s Hawaiians And Their Culture;” “Entertainers and Artists;” “Makers of Modern Maui;” and “Remarkable People of Aloha.” A rare reprinting of the Apology Bill to Hawaiians issued by Congress is also included.
Bezane said the book should appeal to residents who want to get better acquainted with some of Lahaina’s amazing people, and especially visitors who love Maui and want to know more about its culture and people.
