Fifth dream trip realized thanks to West Maui businesses
LAHAINA – Several businesses of West Maui, partnering with Dream Foundation, recently came together to grant a dream trip to Maui.
This is the fifth dream that has been granted through these partnerships.
Anthony Manning, a 51-year-old resident of San Diego, California, has terminal colon cancer and a limited life expectancy.
His dream was of a trip to Hawaii where he could “forget about my illness for a bit and enjoy time with my family somewhere I’ve always dreamed to go,” he said.
Manning, his wife of 22 years, Rebecca, and their two children flew to Maui for his dream vacation in July.
“I would love to sink my toes in the sand on a tropical Hawaiian island for a few days before I am physically unable to go,” said Manning.
Angela Leone, CEO of Coconut Condos, coordinated with several generous donors to make this dream a reality.
Page Cross and Linda Darnell, owners at Aina Nalu, donated their two-bedroom, two-bath condo for their stay.
Patti Franklin of Dollar Rent a Car gave the Manning family a special VIP rate on their car rental, and the Aina Nalu developers donated complimentary parking for their entire stay.
Don Prestage of Sail Maui originally donated two Molokini snorkel trip tickets; however, when he heard the couple’s children were joining them, he quickly donated two more.
“We were honored to be able to do this trip with the Manning family. Working with organizations like this is a truly inspiring part of our business. We appreciate the opportunity to help out and hope that in some small way we can make a positive impact in the lives of people we meet,” said Prestage.
Continuing their ocean experience, Greg Vanderlaan, CEO of UFO Parasail, donated one parasail ride and a discounted price on an additional ride for Anthony and his son, Billy.
Lisa and Warren Gibson of Warren & Annabelle’s Magic had such a great experience with a previous dream recipient that they once again generously offered two VIP tickets to the show. The Mannings enjoyed the Royal Flush Package – and the royal treatment as well.
A Realtor with Elite Pacific Properties, Pamela Reader, contributed a financial donation.
“Sometimes we forget how the little things can make a vacation memorable; a cocktail at sunset, a nice lunch near the ocean, or even something as simple as groceries. I wanted the Manning family to be able to do some of the little things and just thoroughly enjoy it without having to worry about cost,” said Reader.
It was a whirlwind of a trip, but one in which the memories will last.
“We had the most amazing time in Maui. That was the first time in two years that I have seen my husband not sick – just carefree and living life like nothing before. I can’t even describe how wonderful it was to see him so full of life for the first time. The memories will give us a reason to smile,” commented Rebecca.
Dream Foundation is the only national dream-granting organization for adults with terminal illnesses.
“We believe that everyone deserves to have their final days filled with inspiration, comfort and closure,” said Senior Program Coordinator Megan Turley, “because of the commitment of generous companies, we have been able to help tens of thousands of individuals make the most of their remaining days.”
