Rotary exchange student Moritz Leindecker from Germany is greeted at the airport by his host family, Jim and Rev. Amy Crowe, and Dr. Charles and Sue Hill.

LAHAINA – The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise, with support from the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset, is sponsoring newly arrived exchange student Moritz Leindecker from Bad Homburg, Germany, and bidding farewell to Lahainaluna High School exchange student Ayn Marie Eastridge, who will spend a year in Kamen, Germany.

Moritz is a junior at Lahainaluna High School and is excited about his year on Maui.

In a recent talk at the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise, Moritz explained that in Germany, the relationship between student and teacher is formal.

Extracurricular clubs and sports teams are not part of the German education system. Students wishing to engage in sports join clubs outside of school. Moritz plays soccer and basketball.

The Rotary exchange student program is one of the many projects that the Rotary clubs worldwide support to promote greater understanding in the world.

Moritz Leindecker, Rotary exchange student from Germany, is greeted by outbound Rotary exchange student Ayn Marie Eastridge from Lahainaluna High School, who is headed to Germany.

The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise meets every Tuesday morning at 7 a.m. at the Pioneer Inn. The breakfast meeting is $10, and the public is invited to attend to learn about Rotary, engage in service projects and meet community members who practice “Service above Self.”

West Maui is fortunate to have three Rotary Clubs with meetings at breakfast, noon and evening. The public is always welcome; specific information regarding times and days can be found online.
