Lahaina tutoring programs begin the week of Sept. 20
LAHAINA – Lahaina Complex Tutoring Project organizers are ready to begin the 16th year of free after school reading, writing and mathematics tutoring for invited students in grades 3-5 and 6-8.
“Mountains of mahalo to our dedicated volunteers who provide tutoring or support services to maintain an excellent educational service for our Lahaina keiki,” noted Coordinator Pat Endsley.
“We look forward to meeting and working with students, their parents, school staffs and many loyal community sponsors who are dedicated to increase literacy for our Lahaina youngsters.”
Participants should attend the following important events:
Aug. 15 – LHS students sign up to volunteer to tutor math;
Week of Aug. 22 – Invited students take home invitations to participate in the tutoring project;
Tuesday, Sept. 6 – Training for Lahainaluna High School returning math tutors from 2:15 to 3:30 p.m. in the LHS cafeteria;
Wednesday, Sept. 7 – Grades 3, 4, and 5 reading and math tutors meet at 1 p.m. in the Lahaina Intermediate School library;
Thursday, Sept. 8 – Grades 6-8 reading and math tutors meet at LIS from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.;
Thursday, Sept. 8 – Training for new LHS math tutors from 2:15 to 3:30 p.m. in the LHS cafeteria;
Tuesday, Sept. 13 – Parent-Student-Tutor Orientation in the LIS cafeteria from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.;
Wednesday, Sept. 14 – Parent-Student-Tutor Orientation in the Princess Nahienaena Elementary School cafeteria from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.;
Thursday, Sept. 15 – Parent-Student-Tutor Orientation in the King Kamehameha III School cafeteria from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.;
Tuesday, Sept. 20 – Math tutoring begins at LHS and LIS from 2 to 3:15 p.m.;
Wednesday, Sept. 21 – Language arts tutoring begins at King Kamehameha III and Princess Nahienaena School from 1:20 to 3 p.m. and at Lahaina Intermediate from 12:10 to 1:30 p.m.;
Thursday, April 6, 2017 – End-of-the-Year Achievement Awards and Dinner Event for grades three through eight.
