LAHAINA – Lahaina Jodo Mission at 12 Ala Moana St. will celebrate its O-Bon Festival on Saturday, July 2.

The O-Bon service to offer prayers to all the departed souls will be observed in the temple from 6:30 p.m. The lanterns procession will follow immediately after the service from the temple, around the Great Buddha (Daibutsu) to the mission’s beachfront.

The floating lanterns ceremony (toro nagashi) celebrates the memory of all departed loved ones and expresses gratitude to them.

Maui Taiko will dedicate an O-Bon offering taiko drum performance during the ceremony, followed by the Bon Dance.

Food concessions will open from 5:30 p.m. with cultural favorites, sushi, chow fun, teriyaki beef and more. All are invited to join the festivities.
