Colorado couple enjoys dream trip to West Maui with help from local businesses

By Staff | May 12, 2016

Ronald and Dennelle Schulz recently traveled to West Maui through the Dream Foundation.

LAHAINA – Several West Maui local business owners and friends recently came together and partnered with the Dream Foundation to once again make another Maui dream a reality.

Ronald Schulz, a 49-year-old resident of Colorado, suffers from terminal Multiple Myeloma and has less than a year life expectancy due to his condition.

His one final wish was to go on a vacation to Maui with his wife, Dennelle. He told the Dream Foundation that to experience what he gets to watch on “Hawaii 5-0” would be a dream come true.

Coordinated by the team at Coconut Condos, this dream was made possible thanks to a week-long stay donation by MyLien Bui and Phuc Nguyen, owners of a unit at Aina Nalu.

Angela Leone of Coconut Condos said, “It’s so amazing to now see our owners getting involved in this wonderful organization and making dreams come true by sharing the gift of hospitality by opening up their condos to these dream recipients.”

The Aina Nalu developers also donated complimentary parking for the duration of the couple’s stay.

The team at Coconut Condos reached out to other friends in the community to join in making Ronald and Dennelle’s stay one that they would both cherish.

CiCi and Tim Hehemann, Lahaina residents, offered a gift certificate to Soleil Luna Salon and Spa for Ronald’s wife to enjoy some extra special pampering. Both Dennelle and Ron were able to enjoy a massage during their vacation.

On a recent flight back to Maui, Leone bumped into a friend, Lisa Gibson, who had read about previous Dream Foundation recipients in the Lahaina News and expressed interest in donating tickets to the Warren and Annabelle’s magic show.

Warren and Lisa generously offered a VIP dinner and show for the couple to enjoy. Ron reported that they were treated so well and thoroughly enjoyed the magic show.

When Michele Heile, project manager for Coconut Condos, reached out to Pacific Whale Foundation, John Gaskin did not hesitate to donate two tickets for a whale watch sail on Ocean Spirit.

Patti Franklin of Dollar Rental Car offered a highly discounted rental and organized VIP arrangements for them.

Ron had expressed interest in attending a luau, as this is something they had never experienced. Kerry Aotaki of Old Lahaina Luau lined up the Schulz’s first and perhaps only luau as VIPs and offered discounted tickets. An anonymous Coconut Condos team member donated a $100 gift card to cover the cost of the luau for the couple.

Dream Foundation is the only wish-granting organization in the nation for adults with life-threatening illnesses. The requests are made possible by donations and generous acts of kindness – like the ones made by these West Maui business owners and friends.
