Volunteers to receive prestigious awards from Boy Scout council
KAHULUI – Volunteers will receive prestigious awards from the Maui County Council of the Boy Scouts of America at a banquet on Saturday, Jan. 23.
The banquet will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the LDS Maui Lani Stake Center at 1300 Maui Lani Parkway.
The night’s theme is “Super Heroes.” The organization will celebrate all of the accomplishments of the Maui Council in 2015.
The guest speaker for the night will be Major General John Harrel.
- This year, Maui Scouts will recognize Ellie Leialoha with the Silver Beaver Award. Jamie Wright and Dan Batson will be awarded District Awards of Merit.
The Silver Beaver was introduced in 1931 as the highest scouting award given at the local council level. It recognizes volunteers for consistent, dedicated service to the area’s youth, both in and out of scouting, over their tenure as a volunteer. ?
The District Award of Merit is presented to any registered scouter who renders service of an outstanding nature.
“The Silver Beaver is one of the few national awards presented by the local council; we will also be recognizing our District Award of Merit for scouters with outstanding service in their respected areas,” said Robert Nakagawa, Maui County Council scout executive.
“We are honored to have the opportunity to recognize our volunteers in this way, and grateful for their years of devoted service. It is only because of the leaders with this type of dedication that we are able to serve more than 1,000-plus local youth.”
The cost is $20 per person for a catered meal, or $150 for a catered table of eight. To sign up to attend, visit www.mauibsa.org/cab2016.
