West Maui Hospital update, community announcements expected at WMTA meeting
LAHAINA – The West Maui Taxpayers Association (WMTA) will hold its 37th annual Members Meeting on Thursday, Jan. 14, at Lahaina Civic Center.
The public is welcome to attend this interesting and informative event. AKAKU: Maui Community Television will tape the event for re-broadcast later.
Complimentary food service will be provided by Paris Nabavi, chef/owner of Sangrita Grill, starting at 5 p.m., followed by a short business meeting at 5:30 p.m.
Community presentations will start at 6 p.m. Confirmed guest speakers include Leah Belmonte, Gov. David Ige’s Maui representative; Sen. Roz Baker; Rep. Angus McKelvey; Mayor Alan Arakawa; West Maui County Councilwoman Elle Cochran; and Brian Hoyle and Michelle Berner of the Newport Hospital Corporation/West Maui Hospital Foundation.
WMTA reported that there will be additional speakers on “issues important to all of us,” including affordable housing, homelessness, transportation, and capital improvement projects.
Last year, nearly 300 attendees enjoyed the interesting community presentations. WMTA noted that the major purpose of the meeting is to have elected officials address issues of interest to the West Maui community, and schedule special presentations on major projects.
