Lahaina After School Tutor Project to begin its 15th year

By Staff | Aug 20, 2015

Lahaina students in grades 3-8 receive free tutoring by volunteers through the Lahaina After School Tutor Project.

LAHAINA – The volunteers of the Lahaina After School Tutor Project are eager to begin free tutoring programs for Lahaina students in grades three through eight in September. Invitations to participate in one or more of the programs were distributed to students this week to take home to their parents and obtain approval.

The contract to enroll in any one or more of these programs must be signed by the parent and the student and returned to the student’s school site office as soon as possible.

Available spaces are limited, so acceptance into a program will be made on a “first-come, first-served” basis. Students will take home acceptance notification letters to parents by Sept. 1.

Students will be provided with instructional materials, snacks and transportation after tutoring to the Boys and Girls Club on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. All of these services are provided for free thanks to generous donations from program supporters.

Contact the following school site Parent Community Networking Center facilitators for more detailed information: Claire Tillman at King Kamehameha III Elementary School, Roxanne Sininci at Princess Nahienaena Elementary School or Jayme Donez at Lahaina Intermediate School.

Tutoring begins on Sept. 14, 15, 16 and 17. The program offerings are:

Mondays – Theater Theater Maui at LIS for grades 6-8 from 2:10 to 3:10 p.m. Registration forms are available at LIS in the office.

Tuesdays – Math for grade four students at Lahainaluna High School from 2 to 3:10 p.m., and math for grades 6-8 students at LIS from 2:10 to 3:15 p.m.
