LAHAINA – It’s hurricane season, and the Rotary Club of Lahaina invites the public to a presentation by Maui Electric Company’s Chris Reynolds and Mahina Martin, who will discuss storm response and power restoration efforts on Thursday, July 9, at 11:45 a.m. at the Royal Lahaina Resort’s Royal Ocean Terrace.

The meeting is free to the public. Purchasing lunch is not required, but it is available with a 25 percent discount off menu items.

“Providing power that’s safe and reliable is our responsibility, and it’s a responsibility that we take seriously,” said Reynolds, Maui Electric’s transmission and distribution operations superintendent.

“Restoring power during a crisis situation, such as a hurricane, presents challenges, but our staff is well-trained and prepared to respond. It’s important that residents are prepared as well, and having a better understanding of how our electrical system works and the method we use to restore power may be helpful.”

Maui Electric provides electrical service to nearly 70,000 customers on Maui, Molokai and Lanai. As operations superintendent, Reynolds oversees the company’s dispatch unit that monitors and controls the company’s electrical system 24 hours a day, as well as reroutes power and relays outage information to restoration crews during outages.
